JHS Bylaws Revision Headed for Vote In April, the President appointed a By-Laws Committee consisting of Bonnie Cook, Dr. Mary Grace Curry, and Charmaine Rini to review the JHS document which has not been revised since the society’s inception in 1977. The committee convened several times to review and present changes to the Board of Directors and general membership. In November, the changes were unanimously approved by the members of the Board of Directors after many months of discussion and revision. The changes will bring our By-Laws in line with the current membership, and some “housekeeping” items were suggested to clarify or simplify some sections. The terms of office for all officers has been changed to allow all them to have 2 two year terms instead of only 1 two year term. A final vote by the general membership will be taken at the December 10, 2008 meeting. Please make a special effort to attend. Be a part of your Society as we go forward into 2009.
December Meeting Notice Wednesday, December 10, 7:00 P.M. Please mark your calendars for the JHS Christmas party and general membership meeting Wednesday, December 10, at 7:00 P.M., in the Gretna Historical Society Complex at 207 Lafayette Street, Gretna. Our special guests will be archivists from the Ochsner Medical Library and Archives. Siobhan Flahive and Jessica Delgado will present their work on the relatively new Ochsner archives program. The pair is responsible for a collection of more than 200 cubic feet of artifacts and records, and is working to compile a comprehensive inventory of the Ochsner holdings. The hospital was co-founded by Dr. Alton Ochsner (1896—1981) as Ochsner Clinic on January 2, 1942. Now located along Jefferson Highway in Old Jefferson, the clinic has grown substantially in its 64-year history to become a worldwide-respected medical facility.
