 2006 Thomas Jefferson Wreath Ceremony

The Jefferson Parish Historical Commission and the Jefferson Historical Society of Louisiana held their annual Thomas Jefferson wreath-laying ceremony on Friday, April 7, in honor of Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of the United States, the author of the Declaration of Independence, and the orchestrator of the Louisiana Purchase Treaty.  The ceremony marked the 263rd anniversary of Jefferson’s birth.

Proclamations by Jefferson Parish’s seven municipalities were presented during the event, and the president of the society and the chairlady of the commission laid a wreath at the base of the Thomas Jefferson statue.  The Colonial Color Guard of West Jefferson High School and the John Ehret High School Patriot Band assisted with the celebration.
